This prevents you accidentally leaving something switched on which might cause the battery to go flat. The side and tail lights, however, which you may need to leave on when the car is parked, are always wired independently of the ignition switch.

On the compression stroke, the fuel injection system (depending on how it’s timed) sprays fuel into the combustion area, and the resulting cylinder pressure (and residual heat from previous firings) combusts the fuel/air mix, etc.

All of the ground wires in the cockpit can be run to the forward frame grounding post and the battery ground can be run to the frame at the rear or wherever you mount the battery. The exception in his case is the ignition ground, which he runs separate from the other ground wires directly to the battery ground.

In the constant power region however, the drive is a voltage source so it introduces an additional 90 degree phase lag. The total phase lag now is 180 degrees, which is a setup for a sustained and building motor oscillation. This oscillation is commonly called mid-band instability or mid-band resonance.

The former induces currents in the iron of the motor while the latter is caused by the re-alignment of the magnetic domains in the iron. You can think of this as “friction heating” as the magnetic dipoles in the iron switch back and forth. Either way, both cause the bulk heating of the motor. Iron losses are a function of AC current and therefore the power supply voltage.

Some manufacturers now use printed circuits instead of bundles of wires, particularly at the rear of the instrument panel. Printed circuits are plastic sheets on which copper tracks have been "printed". Components are plugged directly into the tracks. A few modern cars have flexible printed circuits. The copper tracks are printed in ribbons of flexible plastic, which replace the whole wiring system.

The best wiring plan is the one that makes access to the connections the easiest and following the wires from end to end possible. When an electrical problem arises at the races, there is little time to find the problem and fix it. Having easy access shortens the process.

What if the customer (the production department if you’re in maintenance) just wants a motor installed and the wiring is up to you? Your first task is to identify how many leads the motor has.
