By Madeleine Catherine. Diagram. Publised at Tuesday, December 19th 2017, 18:21:54 PM. Variable resistors and potentiometers each augment the standard resistor symbol with an arrow. The variable resistor remains a two-terminal device, so the arrow is just laid diagonally across the middle. A potentiometer is a three-terminal device, so the arrow becomes the third terminal (the wiper).

The purpose is the same: getting from point A to point B. Literally, a circuit is the path that allows electricity to flow. If you know what to look for, it’ll become second nature. While at first you’ll just be reading them, eventually you will start creating your own. This guide will show you a few of the common symbols that you are sure to see in your future electrical engineering career.

Some are used to limit LED current, and some are used on inputs (like the button and switch circuits) to both limit the currents flowing to the main chip, and to help protect against electrostatic discharge (or ESD – more on this topic later). The resistors on the Digilent boards, like most resistors used in digital systems, are physically small because they will not encounter large voltages or currents. For these smaller resistors, the resistor value in Ohms is printed in microscopic numbers on the resistor body, not visible to the naked eye.

This is a set of multiple electronic circuits on a small semiconductor device (normally silicon). With the advancement of technology, these IC’s prove to be extremely beneficial. They are present in any electronic device you can name. From computers, mobiles to other digital appliances you have multiple IC’s present in them. Their main components are a combination of Diodes, transistors and microprocessors. The microprocessors provide memory to the device. With the help of the microprocessor the electronic devices can perform logical or protocol applications.

By Jessica Mireille. Diode. Published at Tuesday, December 26th 2017, 13:27:35 PM. A simplified planar silicon diode is illustrated in Fig. 2.0.3. Using this process for silicon diodes produces two differently doped layers of silicon, which form a ‘PN junction’. Undoped or ‘intrinsic’ silicon has a lattice structure of atoms, each having four valence electrons, but P type silicon and N type silicon are doped by adding a relatively very small amount of material having either an atomic structure with three valence electrons (e.g. Boron or Aluminium) to make P type, or five valence electrons (e.g. Arsenic or Phosphorus) to make N type silicon. These doped versions of silicon are known as ‘extrinsic’ silicon. The P type silicon now has a shortage of valence electrons in its structure, which can also be considered to be a surplus of ‘holes’ or positive charge carriers, whereas the N type layer is doped with atoms having five electrons in its valence shell and therefore has a surplus of electrons which are negative charge carriers.

By Lydie Honorine. Power. Published at Tuesday, December 26th 2017, 13:24:59 PM. It is important to understand that a regulator holds its output voltage fixed only when it is in constant voltage mode. In current limiting, the output voltage will be reduced as required to hold the load current at the set limiting value.

By Madeleine Catherine. Amplifier. Published at Tuesday, December 26th 2017, 13:03:24 PM. Generally, an ideal signal amplifier has three main properties, Input Resistance or ( Rin ), Output Resistance or ( Rout ) and of course amplification known commonly as Gain or ( A ). No matter how complicated an amplifier circuit is, a general amplifier model can still be used to show the relationship of these three properties.

The lower dropout voltage is the reason LDO regulators dominate battery-powered applications, since they maximize the utilization of the available input voltage and can operate with higher efficiency. The explosive growth of battery-powered consumer products in recent years has driven development in the LDO regulator product line.
